Remember This? #37 Spelling Test

If you do, leave a comment!

Spelling was my best subject throughout school, and this was a useful skill to have in the days before spellcheck. My biggest claim to fame is placing 11th in the California State Spelling Bee in 1993, during the spring of 7th grade. All my childhood trophies have bees on them instead of athletes. (Nerd alert! Nerd alert!)

Hey, bigger nerd alert = Monterey Diocese Spelling Bee Winner in 7th grade. CATHOLIC SCHOOL speller. I think I got ya beat there.
But yes, I do remember the folded piece of paper, “hot dog fold.” A surprising dose of paper conservationism in the ‘good ol’ days’ of ignorance! lol.

I almost have you both beat: I was the Santa Rosa Diocese Spelling Bee Winner in the FOURTH grade! The second place winner was a sixth grader. However, in the Sonoma County Spelling Bee I placed a lousy 15th. I choked horribly. That was hard on my ego.

In school, I loved to read, and I loved words, but I freaking HATED spelling. Friday was spelling test day. What a way to ruin a great day! The worst form of torture was when we had to pass our spelling tests to a “neighbor” for grading. That was AWFUL. I remember being SO happy about going to high school because it meant NO MORE SPELLING TESTS!!!
