I have what I believe is a 1944 no mint mark Henning nickel. Notice how sharp and well-defined the word CENTS is on the genuine example, whereas on the fake it melts into the field. As a result, many fakes have been made over the years. Francis Leroy Henning was born in Erial, New Jersey on September 18, 1891. Hennings problems stemmed from his coins dated 1944, since it seems he either didnt know or didnt care that the wartime nickels had a different mint mark. McDermott owned the coin for many decades until it was auctioned off after his death. The Liberty Head nickel is also known as the V nickel because of the Roman number V on its reverse side.
